Our Journey to Net Zero
WGM values the important role we can play in the reduction of carbon emissions and responding to the climate emergency. We foster a culture of net zero and provide proactive leadership on this agenda.
Our vision is “To be a net zero business and take every possible measure to accelerate our progress towards achieving this ambition and increase climate resilience by embracing circular economy principles.”
To view our updated Net Zero Routemap Strategy click here. This sets out a delivery pathway detailing how we will achieve emissions reduction to meet our net zero targets. The strategy outlines our carbon emissions, our targets, and our 6 areas of focus:
- Fuel used in our offices and on sites
- Our fleet
- Electricity used in our offices, workshops, and on sites
- Business travel and commuting
- Purchased goods and services – our supply chain
- Our projects
In order to achieve our ambitions, WGM’s overarching carbon emissions objectives are:
- Net zero carbon across our controlled operations by 2033 and
- Net zero carbon across our wider supply chain by 2040
Sustainable Development Goals
The UK has adopted the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our Net Zero Routemap Strategy is a way to support the UK in achieving the SDGs and mitigating climate change.
By aligning this Routemap to the SDG’s we are adopting a more holistic approach to carbon reduction efforts within WGM Engineering. Consequently, we can demonstrate our sustainability credentials to the wider community and our clients.
Our Routemap will allow us to support the below SDG’s in particular:
- SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy
- SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
- SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities
- SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production
- SDG 13 – Climate Action
