The Project Scope
Shieldhall STW is one of the major treatments works in the Glasgow area. Flows enter the works at the South end of the site and make their way into the Pre-Sedimentation Building. The ‘Pre-Sed’ building contains screens, handling equipment, and grit plant which allow for effective removal of debris and solids from the incoming flow before it is passed forward for further treatment. The equipment within the Pre-Sed building at Shieldhall has reached the end of its design life and as such requires significant overhaul.
Preliminary Survey Works
Scottish Water engaged Framework partner WGM to determine this scope for this project. For this, WGM and partners undertook substantial preliminary survey works as per below:
- Detailed mechanical, electrical, and structural surveys of plant, equipment, & components
- Asset data gathering, review of record information, drawings, O&M manuals
- 3D Laser Scan of assets and generation of BIM-compliant Revit model
- Specialist Roofing Survey using drone to mitigate working at height risks Balmore Group
- Framework supplier equipment surveys by Huber Screens, Waterfront Penstocks, EMS grit plant,
- 3rd party surveys for access Fortress Sefa, security & fire Pointer, gas detection EGM Ltd, ventilation ScotVent, glazing Welding Engineers, etc
Next Steps
This preliminary survey work has helped WGM build a comprehensive scope for our client Scottish Water. This project is soon entering a phase of detailed design and governance, after which WGM’s project delivery team will undertake construction as part of a program lasting in excess of 2 years and £10M.
