WGM Celebrates the eighth anniversary of the adoption of the UN Sustainable Development Goals

The UN Sustainable Development Goals are a set of 17 ambitious global goals aiming to eradicate poverty, fight inequalities and tackle climate change (United Nations 2016). The goals are closely interconnected and have a direct link to climate change. For the UK, key challenges identified by the United Nations include Zero Hunger (SDG2); Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG12); Climate Change (SDG13) and Partnership Work for Goals (SDG17).

Today, Monday the 25th of September, marks the eighth anniversary of the adoption of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and WGM Engineering is joining hundreds of businesses, government departments, and civil society organisations in a global movement to fly an SDG flag to spread awareness of the SDGs and mobilise stakeholders for the 2030 agenda.

Agnes Piatek-Bednarek, WGM’s Net Zero Programme Manager, and Philippa Seabeck, Sustainability Manager are hosting a drop in lunch and learn for employees focusing on WGM’s sustainability initiatives and how these contribute to achieving the UN SDG’s.

WGM is committed to playing our part in achieving a number of SDGs through our innovative sustainable services. For example, by applying circular economy practices such as redesign, reuse, repair and remanufacturing, we are directly aligning our works with achieving SDG 9 (industry, innovation and infrastructure), SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production) and SDG 13 (climate action). Our work further supports SDG 7 (affordable and clean energy) and is demonstrated by the work our Renewables business stream provides including Solar PV, hydroelectricity, and wastewater heat recovery.
